Giuseppe was born about 1806 in Bugnara, L'Aquila, Italy, the son of Carmine Ritrovati and Elisabetta DiVito.
His wife was Vincenza Gennaro. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their four known children were Domenico Antonio (1832-1834), Cesidio (1836-?), Perpetua (1840-?) and Vittorino (1844-1845).
