Francesco was born about 1797 in Bugnara, L'Aquila, Italy, the son of Pasquale Maistro and Rosalba Manna.
His wife was Emidia Santa Felice. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their eight known children were Maria (1827-?), Pietro (1829-1830), Maria Domenica (1832-1833), Maria Domenica (1834-?), Pietro (1836-1837), Carmina (1838-1839), Pietro (1842-1845) and Domenico (1845-1846).
