Note 1

Subject: info from Grace Date: Fri, 15 May 1998 17:05:00 -0500

marcied@@NOL.net, weisscal@@pacbell.net I found some notes in a

drawer recently that I took one day when I was talking to Auntie

Grace on the phone. This was in Nov., 1991. It is not in any

particular order but has some family history in it. I have not

checked to see if the dates are correct with the family tree.

Some of the stuff does not really make any sense. It may be of

interest to you. 1895, Grandpa Aspromonte came to Hesperus,

CO at about 14 years old, possibly with his half brother.

Grandpa wanted to come dig coal. Grandma Aspromonte weaved cloth

in Italy but didn't know how to sew, mendclothes, nothing.

Grandpa went back to Italy to marry. Brought Grandma as a young

bride, but she got tired of life washing clothes, etc. Mary was

born and 10 months later Charlie was born. Then, Grandma went

back to Italy. She was tired of ladies criticizing her [in

America]. Charlie was 9 months old. Then, Grandpa went to Italy,

built a big vineyard and big house. Grandma got pregnant with my

dad, Tony, and two years later had Lena. When Charlie was 17,

decided to reunite the family. So, they all came back to

America. Charlie learned to be a shoemaker while in Italy. When

he came to America he just washed dirty shoes! Quit - was a

water boy on the railroad. Then worked on the rairoad. Then, he

went to work at the mine with Grandpa. Then Mary and Dan got

married in Italy and had their son Domenico. Charlie and Grandpa

paid to get Grandma, Lena and Tony back to America. At 17,

Charlie decided to back to Italy - stayed with Uncle Dan's

parents. Charlie knew Auntie Grace's sister and that's how he

met Auntie Grace. Then went back to Italy when he was 26 and

married. Nov. 1 in Philadelphia, Nov. 18, 1933 Grace to Durango.

973 - Clara and Grace returned to Italy. 977 - Back again to

Italy with Johnny and took the picture [Grace embroidered on an

old Singer treadle sewing machine] and donated it to the

Vatican. Grace was born April 27, 1914.
