Helen was born in 1916 in Yeadon, the daughter of Ernest Carl Imhof and Mary Heckman.
Her husband was Thomas Crawford Phayre, who she married in 1944 in Yeadon. Their three known children were Sally (?-?), Thomas (?-?) and Donna (?-?).

Helen's father owned Imhof's restaurant in Germantown, Pa. Before
that her family owned a restaurant in the Reading Terminal during the
1930's and 40's which was considered one of the finest restaurants in
