Cosmo was born on 22 AUG 1852 in Lettopalena, Chieti, Italy, the son of Sabatino DeVitis and Rosalba Palmieri.

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Anna Vincenza DiNobile, who he married on 11 NOV 1880. The place has not been found. Their five known children were Giuseppe Rinaldo (1882-?), Severino Giuseppe (1884-?), Rosa (1886-?), Nunziata (1896-?) and Severino (1898-?).

His second wife was Michele Nicola DiNobile. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their only known child was Michele Nicola (1892-?).
