Domenico was born about 1809 in Bugnara, L'Aquila, Italy, the son of Carmine DiVito and Cassiadora Nolfi.
His wife was Maria Domenica Marsilio. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their three known children were Giuseppe (1837-?), Pompeo Pietro (1846-1849) and Francesco (1850-?).
