I have been researching my family history for the past 4 years and would be interested in discussing genealogy with people of the same surname or persons who lived or lives in the same general area as my family origins. lionharted@sbcglobal.net The earliest record of the Paoletti surname (my father) is Etruscian (Tuscany) in origin. My research indicates that my ancestors left Tuscany in 1690 and relocated in the Gran Sasso Mountains to escape the numerous ongoing wars among Spain, Austria, Turky and England for possession of the northern part of Italy. The Paoletti family relocated to what is now the Commune of Pietracamela, Teramo Abruzzo. Pietracamela is located in the Gran Sasso at an elevation of 1000 meters above the Adriatic Sea. The area was the wool capital of Europe in the 1600's and my family were owners and processors of wool and wool products. My father was a shephard boy in his youth before he immigrated to the US in 1923 and settled in western Pennsylvania. I have Paoletti family relatives in Toronto, Italy, Canada, western Pennsylvania, North Carolina, southern California and Oregon. My Mothers family surname is Facciolo from the Greek Sila of southern Italy and the Commune of San Giovanni In Fiore, Cosenza Calabria. My mothers family immigrated to the US in 1901 and settled in western Pennsylvania. Some members of the Facciolo family have changed there Facciolo surname to Fetchero. I have Facciolo family relatives living in western Pennsylvania, Nevada and Florida. Richard Paoletti

I am amazed at the imformation I gathered about my background thru your pages. I have sent along corrections to some of my family background. I have also sent additions to the information you have listed. I visited Rocca Pia to see my relatives and plan to go back. Keep up the good work. How do you work in the grandchildren for these families?

Dear Sirs, I come to you requesting some information related to the documentation belonging to Mr.Luigi Volpe, who was my Italian Grandfather, once I am aiming to apply for Italian Citizenship. Mr. Volpe was born probably around 1861 and when he was 34 years old he came to Brazil on a ship called vapor Maranhão and went through customs at Santos harbor on November 3rd, 1895 along with his wife Domenica Belline (29 years old) and their children: Eugênio(4 years old), Vittorio(1 month old) and Tereza Volpe or Belline (66 years old). I would appreciate receiving any information you can send me regarding them as their parents’ name, city where they were born and or came from and also to see the possibility of receiving their birth and marriage certificate. I am looking forward to any information you can send me once they are extremely important to me. I`m so proud to say I`m the 3rd genaration from both Italian mother and father.[full blooded]Both sets of grandparents came through Ellis Island in the 1920`s.This is a wonderful place.I feel my heart here.We all have a great heritege to pass on to our children. As they grow older they will come to know how important this is.As our grandparents did the most couragous thing for all of us.To make that great decission to leave home, family, friends,to come to America for a better life for them selves and their children.Little did they know how much they would fourish and thrive.Todays Italian-Americans owe them so much.Pass it on and play it forward!!!

I am trying to research my husband's family. His great grandparents are Bernard Carozza and Catherine Scarci. I noticed both those names associated with your site. I know they came to the US and one of their sons, Julius Jacob Carozza, was baptized in Bowling Green, KY, in 1892. I haven't been into your site yet but hope I find some treasures. This research is his Christmas present this year! It is interesting that both surnames seem to point to Palena, Italy, as well. I'd love to find more specifics for him. Wish me luck - if you have any insight, I'd love to hear from you.

OVINDOLI, SANT'IONA, and ROSCIOLO DEI MARSI, L'Aquila, are the villages from which my parents and grandparents were born. Surnames in my ancestry include ROSATI, CARDARELLI, MORETTI, VITALE, CIACCIA, PIETROBUCCI, COIA, LEONARDI, PIETRANTONI, FLAVIANI, CIMINELLI. I noticed that you list some CIACCIA in your wonderful genealogical work of art. Like my great-great-grandfather, GIUSEPPE CIACCIA, they are from Celano. My ancestor was a freedom fighter for some because he refused to serve in the military of le Due Sicilie. To the authorities he was a brigande who moved to Ovindoli. But, I am proud of him resisting. It would be exciting if I could find a connection to the other CIACCIA of Celano. One of his daughters, TERESA CIACCIA, married my great-grandfather, Emilio d'Abele (di Croce) Cardarelli. My email address is ovindoli@usa.net. Your genealogical work ignites envy in me; yet, I wish the best for you. Buona fortuna. Al Rosati figlio d'Attilio (di Domenico Epifanio) Rosati

: I am looking for information about my great grandparents. They game to the U.S. about 1898 and before 1903. They were from the Abruzzo region. I am trying to find the exact town. My great grandfather was Salvatore Ricci, born about 1864. He married a Theresa (Cicone, Ciccone, Cicome) all the ways I've seen it spelled. She was born about 1877. They had a son, Antonio Ricci, who died on February 24, 1898 at 5 months. I am not sure if he died in Italy or in the U.s. I can not find a death certificate in the states. If you think you have any information that may help please e-mail me. : Grazie, : Annette Marie

My grandfather, FRANCESCO ANTONIO ROSSI was born in Montenerodomo 6/1887. His father was Giustino Rossi and his mother's name was Eleanor Carozza or Carozzo. He emigrated to Phil, Pa. in 1903. He traveled with Onorato Rossi who I believe returned to Montenerodomo.. Hope someone out there has more information to share.

I have only logged on to this site a couple times in the past year but I thought I would check it out again since my husband and I will be attending a Lettopalena reunion tomorrow evening. I would like to add information about the descendants of Michael and Thelma Smith Dimuzio who were my husband, Tom's parents, but I'm not sure how to do it and I suppose I must ask the permission of the other family members. I want our children to be a part of the recorded history. Could you help me out with some suggestions? Thanks you so much.

We just got back from 25 days in the Abruzzo region. I don't want to see a plate of pasta for a few months. We took my Mom back to her home town of San Benedetto in Perillis. She hadn't been back home in 49 years since she came to the USA. The town is very close to Lettopalena and the largest nearby town would be Popoli or Sulmona. We also visited my cousins in L'Aquila and Pescara and went to Rome for a week. I have an extensive family tree document that a relative compiled and when I finally get it on an electronic medium, I will send it to you. I thought the Carfang name was familiar and while looking at the rest of your site I realized why. I am a brother of APD, Theta Beta '81 and met your dad several times during road trips to Pittsburg and undergraduate meetings, etc. Ask your Dad to tell Charlie Fiore that I said hi.
